  • Chateau d'Yquem, Sauternes, France. Chateau Yquem makes one of the great wines of the world, the Sauternes sweet white wine, which is considered the Stradivarius of wines.  It can cost hundreds of dollars a bottle.  The wine is made by the laborious late harvest by hand of grapes (Semillon and Sauvignon) that have been affected by the noble rot botrytis cenarea, a fungus that attacks the grapes and concentrates the sugars by evaporation.
